The Long Version:

     Caesar's Palace is probably one of the more famous hotels on the strip thanks to movies like The Hangover.  Thanks to these kind of things, Caesar's Palace has been able to remain relevant and popular despite its age being over 50 years old. And as we've seen from hotels like Bally's, being old can sometimes make it really hard for you to keep up. Regardless, Caesar's has aged well and continues to be a hot spot for people staying in Vegas. Their show Absinthe has gotten a lot of good reviews, and I believe is the top rated show on the strip right now. Don't quote me on that though. I personally have never seen it but I hear about it a lot on the radio. The inside of the hotel is nice, whenever I'm on the strip I like to take a trip inside just to look at the architecture. 

     The price of the hotel isn't too bad. It has a low price of about $155 but of course it can get a lot higher than that. This places Caesar's Palace at around the middle of the pack in terms of how expensive the hotel is, so it isn't one of the places you want to go if you're trying to save money, however if you want to stay in a popular hotel without having to pay a minimum of $400 then you would go here. All in all it's a good hotel with a good show going for it and you can tell all your friends you stayed in the same hotel that The Hangover was in.

     Popular hotel with good quality for a middle of the road price.

Monday Funday [8/11] - Super Summer Theatre

So last week for the first time I saw the musical adaptation of Shrek. And while it was a little bit different than the movie, it does make for a good event for people of any age. The atmosphere is very friendly and you'll see kids playing in the field around the stage before the show starts, people with their picnic blankets, and everyone just generally having a good time. The musical itself is entertaining, and the crowd is very responsive and supportive to give the whole experience a nice atmosphere. The tickets are rather inexpensive, $8 beforehand and $10 at the door, the only thing you may be spending a lot of money on is the gas driving out to its location at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

That's what the stage looks like, you can see it's a very chill environment, people just sit on their blankets and watch the show. It's a great place to go for a cheap fun date or just to get the kids out of the house. You can find more information about it here.

Hump Day Hotels: Monte Carlo

The Long Version:

     Before I write these little information blogs, I make notes about my personal experiences at the hotels and then do some extra studying to get the information on like room pricing and age and reviews, all that jazz. When I was looking at the room pricing for the Monte Carlo, I was actually pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive their rooms are. Of course, you nee to be aware that you have a mandatory $22 resort fee to pay upon check-in so the prices are slightly misleading, but there were some rooms available throughout the week for as little as $49. The Monte Carlo is also home to my favorite show on the strip, the Blue Man Group. It's not a show for everyone so I won't fanboy too much about it, but I suggest everyone see it at least once. The Monte Carlo has been advertising their experience as "Unpretentiously Luxurious," making a bit of a jab at the more pretentious hotels here trying to make themselves seem more open to guests.

The Short Version:

     Good price hotel with a fancy theme without the pretentiousness.

Monday Funday [8/4] - Purple Penguin

So this isn't so much of a place you go to spend an hour or two, this is just a little snowcone place that has arguably the best snowcones ever. Whenever I tell my friends in California about this place, they always have doubt because when you say "snowcone," people usually think about those not-so-good paper cones full of crunchy ice you got for $1 at the high school fundraiser carnival with what little flavor there is sunk down to the bottom of the cone leaving you a flavorless pile of frost. No. The people at Purple Penguin have somehow figured out a way to not only make the ice in to something that actually resembles "snow," but also a way to make sure that there is flavor at every level. I probably sound ridiculous but if you've ever had one of their snowcones you know that I'm not exaggerating. 

Look at that snowcone. You know what, I just convinced myself. I'm going after work.

Hump Day Hotels: Bally's

The Long Version:

     Oh, Bally's. This is the place to go if you're on a really tight budget and still want to be able to say you stayed on the strip. With rooms for as low as $50 a night, you can kind of get a sense of the quality of the hotel. Now, I have never personally stayed there myself, but I have had several friends of mine stay there and they all say the same thing about it: you get what you pay for. Even some of their most expensive rooms can be as low as $475, so if you feel like living it up you'll be able to without having to open up a second mortgage (talk to me about all your real estate needs and questions). The building itself is pretty old and there hasn't been much done to renovate it except for what was done after the fire, so some pretty basic things that people take for granted may surprise you here. For example, if you want hot water you're going to have to leave the faucet running for a few minutes before it gets to your room, especially if your room is on the lower floors.

The Short Version:

     Really cheap hotel, you get what you pay for.

Monday Funday [7/28] - Wet 'n' Wild

One of the most popular places to go during summer would be Wet 'n' Wild Las Vegas. With a bunch of slides and pools to cool down in, it's really no question as to why so many people like to go here. It's open all of summer, and by the time it closes school has started back up again so there's no worry of having a day of summer where it's not an option. It's a bit more expensive that its competitor Cowabunga Bay, but that's some money that would just be spent on gas if you live on the other side of down and don't feel like going all the way out to the other side of Henderson for entertainment.

Hump Day Hotels: The Cosmopolitan

The Long Version:

     The Cosmopolitan, being one of the newer hotels, is really expensive in comparison to other hotels around. However it is a luxury hotel so you will be staying in some pretty sweet rooms even if you do go for the lowest priced room available. When you check in you may have an opportunity for a room upgrade for $30, and the people who have taken that offer seem to all suggest you take it. The Cosmo tends to attract a much younger crowd because of its style and there's a little bit of a reputation to the hotel that it's for the sorority girl types, but the staff is friendly to people of all ages and you don't have to worry about the "snooty" attitude that you may get at some of the other luxury hotels. If you go through some of the reviews of the hotel you'll see that customer service is actually one of their most praised qualities, along with the food available there. An oatmeal and juice brought to you by room service can run you around $50 though so be careful.
     In the Cosmo you have the Marquee, which was the top grossing nightclub in the U.S. at one point. It is easily one of the most attractive spots in Las Vegas drawing in people from all over the strip. This is something to be careful about though when booking rooms, as people have complained that the booming music from the nightclub can be heard in any rooms facing or around it.


The Short Version:

     Expensive but good quality hotel that will make your wallet hurt if you're not careful.

Monday Funday [7/21] - The High Roller

If you're looking for something to do this week, think about taking a trip to the High Roller. On Tuesdays, locals get a 2 for 1 discount making it pretty affordable and it really is fun. A good time to go is around 7:30 p.m. when the sun is starting to set and the lights are all turning on, once you reach the top it's like perfect lighting for some awesome pictures. Hump-Day Hotels: The Quad

The Long Version:

     The Quad has gone through a lot of changes over the years. When it first opened in 1959 it was called the "Flamingo Capri." Later in 1979 when ownership was handed over to Ralph Engelstad, the hotel took on an Asian theme and was renamed as the "Imperial Palace." In 2012 it was again renamed "The Quad," and in a few months from now on October 30th, the hotel will be renamed a fourth time as the "Linq Hotel & Casino." Since around 2005 they have spent millions of dollars in refurbishing the casino and hotel rooms so although the hotel itself has been there for a long time, it still does a good job keeping up with the newer hotels coming out.
      The area around the Quad is also really nice. It's in a good location on the strip, kind of towards the middle so nothing is too terribly far. The Linq also has great shopping available and interesting art and architecture. There's also the newly added High Roller which is fun as well. Locals get a 2 for 1 special on Tuesday which I highly recommend. The price of the cheapest rooms are about $150 per night for 2 people putting it in the moderately priced bracket, but the price is worth it given quality of room and what is available to you right outside the hotel.



The Short Version:

     Old hotel but it is well maintained keeping it feeling new. Placed in a good location with lots of things to do around the hotel making this an overall good place to stay.
